For high-stakes testing purposes—such as college admissions, professional certification, and employment decisions—CaMLA offers proficiency and certification tests. These high-stakes tests are administered only at CaMLA-authorized test centers under strict security conditions.

ECCE

The Examination for the Certificate of Competency in English (ECCE) is an upper-intermediate level exam that tests all four skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). Successful test takers receive an official certificate that is valid for their lifetime and is generally used for educational and occupational purposes.

ECPE

The Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE) is an advanced level exam that tests all four skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). Successful test takers receive an official certificate that is valid for their lifetime and is generally used for educational and occupational purposes.

MELAB

The Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) is a multilevel exam that tests listening, reading, and writing, with an optional speaking component. Official score reports are sent directly to the institutions requested by the test taker and are generally used for professional certification and educational purposes. MELAB scores are valid for two years.

MET

The Michigan English Test (MET) is a multilevel, modular exam. Test takers can take the speaking module, the writing module, the listening/reading module, or all three. Test takers will receive an official score report through their exam center. MET scores are generally used for educational and occupational purposes.

YLTE

CaMLA Young Learners Tests of English (YLTE) are a fun and motivating way to assess the English of young learners in the primary and middle grades. The tests—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—cover all four language skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). Test takers receive certificates that specify ability levels in each language skill.
